2016 WINNERS

1st and 2nd Year Category

1st PRIZE

Shoaib Sheikh

Lovely Professional University, Phagwara

An abode is meant to be a place of relaxation; and for a creative couple, a source of inspiration. This concept captures the essence of both ideas beautifully. Even the selection of the rabbit as a pet is reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland and the phrase “down the rabbit hole”. The concept of projecting the surroundings inside almost literally brings the outside in, and provides the much needed stimulus for a creative couple.  All these elements have been fused wonderfully together to tell a story of enchantment in a beautifully whimsical hand crafted presentation. It truly captures the essence of what this competition was all about.

2nd PRIZE

Keerthana Vivin, Madhuri Sharma

RV College of Architecture, Bengaluru

The transformative ability of the outdoor spaces to become indoor spaces and the imaginative, contextual and fantastic approach of the design make this an extremely desirable place to live. The strength of this fantasy design lies in the fact that it does not depend on possible future technology for its execution.

3rd PRIZE

Mrunmayee Thakurdesai

KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Udyambag

One of the important underlying aspects of this competition was to create an abode for a creative couple – one that will help inspire their creative work. This entry reiterates the importance of nature as one of our biggest sources of inspiration by suspending the couple’s house into a space where you are exposed to nature’s beauty at every angle. Each room allows for a different view. The glass structure allows the highest level of transparency and visual freedom. The architectural elements come together in this profound unique hanging structure. The exploration of the placement and the form of the house was an interesting story to tell, and a winning aspect for the entrant.

3rd, 4th, and 5th Year Category

1st PRIZE

Martine Huijsmans

CEPT Ahemedabad

This entry reminds us all what architecture is about – communication through visuals, one that doesn’t get lot in unnecessary jargon. Using powerful images derived from a rich context to arrive at interesting forms; this entry captures the essence of the competition. The monochromatic representation furthers the simplicity yet power of the concept. The entrant has intelligently deconstructed the Dhow boat module and re-constructed it to create a playful place that exudes and inspires creativity. The entrant doesn’t get lost in trying to work out the details of how the structures would work, but focuses on what is important in an ideas competition such as this – the moulding of spaces to create experiences

2nd PRIZE

V.Rakshantha

BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru

Simple yet powerful. The innovative thought process and the sensitive detailing of the spaces is the strength of this design. A good understanding and use of lines, their development to evolve interesting forms, and a down to earth human-scale approach creates a stimulating environment for its creative residents. The exploration of form was an interesting and winning idea in this project.

3rd PRIZE

Sania Dogra, Drishti Jain, Nikita Madan

Vastu Kala Academy, New Delhi

The use of dynamic architecture, optimal viewsheds from the site and the assorted treatment given to various functions, creates the appropriate environment for artist and art students. The entrant captured the essence of the ideas competition through their unique architectural treatment where the roof was considered an equally important façade as the typical four walls.  The orientation of the built form allowed for the creation of differing spaces, each with their own unique treatment.
